Gary Says…

Across many of our coastal towns and cities, gulls have become part of everyday life. But when wildlife and people come into conflict, it can create problems for communities, businesses and the birds themselves. The Gary Says campaign is a new public awareness initiative designed to help people understand how simple actions—especially around food waste and feeding wildlife—can make a big difference.

At the heart of the campaign is Gary the Gull, a friendly character helping to share practical, easy-to-follow messages about living responsibly alongside urban wildlife. Through schools, local communities and public spaces, Gary will encourage everyone to “think before you feed”, dispose of food waste properly, and help reduce behaviours that unintentionally attract gulls. By working together, we can create cleaner streets, safer public spaces, and healthier wildlife.

The campaign also invites the public to take part. Visitors can submit sightings, report problem areas, and share information through our quick reporting system, helping us gather real-world data that will support better understanding and future solutions.
